China Visa Requirements
Prepare the documents that the Embassy of China or the Chinese Visa Application Service Center typically asks for. Requirements vary by visa category; additional documents or an interview may be requested.
General Requirements for All Applicants
- Original passport valid for more than six months
- At least two blank visa pages
- Photocopy of the passport information page
- Completed online visa application form
- Printed application form and confirmation page, duly signed
- One recent passport-size photograph matching the uploaded photograph
- Copies of previous Chinese visas, if applicable
- Previous passport copy, if the previous Chinese visa is in an old passport
- Proof of legal residence for applicants applying outside their country of citizenship
- Additional documents or an interview may be requested by the Embassy
- Fingerprint submission may be required
Tourist Visa (L Visa)
- Invitation letter issued by a tourism-receiving organization in China
- Confirmed and paid hotel reservation
- Detailed travel itinerary in China
- Confirmed round-trip air ticket
- Original bank balance certificate
- Sufficient funds equivalent to at least USD 100 for each day of the trip
- Previous Chinese visas and entry/exit stamps for Double or Multiple Entry applications
Business Visa (M Visa)
- Any one of the following official invitation documents:
- Invitation Letter (TE)
- Invitation Verification Form
- Foreign Expert Invitation Letter
- The Embassy may also request supporting documents relating to the applicant’s profession, business and proposed commercial activities in China.
Medical Treatment Visa (S2 Visa)
- Invitation letter from the receiving hospital in China
- Hospital admission certificate or proposed treatment certificate
- Original bank balance certificate showing at least USD 10,000
- Medical reports and supporting treatment documents
- A maximum of two accompanying family members is generally permitted
- Proof of relationship between the patient and accompanying family member
- Accompanying-person certificate issued by the receiving hospital
Double and Multiple Entry Visa
- All applicable documents for the relevant visa category
- Copies of previous valid Chinese visas
- Copies of previous Chinese entry and exit stamps
- Evidence of genuine need for repeated travel
- Double or Multiple Entry approval is entirely at the discretion of the relevant Chinese authority
